James
Fagan and Nancy Kerr are definitely a class act. Winners
of the 2003 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Duo, they combine a highly skilful and innovative
performance with great warmth, energy and good humour
and their love of live performance is obvious. They are both from
strong musical families. James hails from Australia while Nancy
has North East roots. She is the daughter of Sandra Kerr, a
singer and musician best known for her performances in the classic
children's programme 'Bagpuss'. James and Nancy are both skilled
musicians on fiddle mandola and fiddle repectively, with some
wonderful harmonies, combining
the traditions of the North East and Australia.
You can see them on Saturday, 17th July at the Davy Lamp in the Arts
Centre, Washington. I highly recommend them - it doesn't get any better
than this!
John
Snowball and Pat Baldwin will be filling the guest spot at the Rugby
Club in Guisborough on Sunday, 18th . John is a singer/guitarist and
Pat plays a variety of recorder and wind instruments/singer. Together
they produce a great sound with a bit of a folk/rock feel.
Since being awarded BBC Radio
Yorkshire Songwriter of the Year in August 2006 Anna Shannon has been
making a steady name for herself as a contemporary singer-songwriter ,
appearing at numerous festivals last year and with many more to
come this summer. In May 2007 Anna was awarded both 1st and
2nd places in the "Song for the Sea" competition at the Whitby Captain
Cook Festival. She'll be playing at the Duke William in Skelton
on Thursday, 22nd July.
