  • Hello all. Just a line to say what a wonderful night we had at your club on Saturday. You certainly have a brilliant atmosphere, and as hosts you could not have been any kinder. We were made to feel very welcome by all, and enjoyed all of the floor spots. The icing on the cake was of course the performance by Claire Mann and Aaron Jones. Also great to see Tom McConville again. We will see you again some time although the trip from Bromsgrove is a bit on the long side (240 miles ). Regards,    Neil & Yvonne Payne. (Bromsgrove Folk Club.)

I love the club and would like to visit it more often. It has a wonderful selection of musicans that make the place what it is!

Hi,
Back in my University days in the 70’s, I came across an album of songs by various artists and I wondered whether you could give me any information on any recordings that the club may have put out.
Regards,

Martin Mel

Hello Martin
Do you mean a vinyl album from the 70's?
If so, the club  members made an album called 'Songs from Washington's Davy Lamp Folk Club' in 1976.
It featured Frank O'Neill, Don Day, Barrie Dipper, Bob Fox and me and my husband Eric.
There were only 500 copies made and I understand it's something of a collectors item now.  I presume you don't still have your copy!  The picture on the front was a caricature of all of us as 'pitfolk', drawn by the now famous North East artist, Bob Olley.

What a grand evening! Thank yo both so much for your welcome, the seats and kindness in giving me a bit extra time.  We enjoyed Jez so much it was well worth the trip to hear the band in a special setting...
(I hope it won't be another four and a half years before we visit you again.)
Kind regards
Kevin & Zig  (Loughran)

Hello.
Please can you advise if there are any tickets available for the Martin Simpson concert on 2.6.07. If so, can I obtain them online?
Christine Haigh

Hi Christine,
We never do tickets in advance, so it's pay at the door -first come, first served.
If you're travelling any distance, however, please ring me on 0191 4166999 and let me know.  I'm sure we'll be able to ensure you a space.

D
ear Terri-
Sandy and I were thrilled to visit the club on June 9 and to see both
the "regulars" and Dick Gaughan, all in the same evening. The music,
and the hospitality were wonderful.  I work as a volunteer with the
Godfrey Daniels Folk Club here in Bethlehem and we saw Dick perform
there back in 1995.....seeing him again was a real treat.
This was our first ever visit to the Northeast....my great
grandfather Robert had emigrated from the Ryhope area in 1869 to work
in the anthracite coal mines of Northeastern Pennsylvania near
Plymouth/Wilkes Barre/Wyoming. It was a wonderful visit all around.

Keep the music playing......and thanks again for your kindness.  Hope
to return one day.
very truly,

Dear Terri,

You may remember my making your aquaintance on our last visit to the 'Davy' last year, having relocated to the Conwy area of N.Wales.  I recall mentioning the Conwy Folk Club and perhaps wishing it was like the 'Davy' and my wife was lucky enough to be given a guest spot.
A great night, thanks for your wonderful hospitality

Best Regards,
Craig at Conwy

Hi,   We're hoping to pay a visit to the club to see Emily Smith on Feb 23. Do we need to get tickets in advance, reserve them or will they be available on the door?
Cheers
Alan Wright

Hi Alan,
No we don't do tickets at the Davy Lamp - it's just pay at the door.
However, if you're travelling any distance, just give us a ring on 0191 4166999 and we'll make sure we fit you in on the night.
Terri

I wonder whether you can help me.
I notice that Eric Bogle is playing at the Arts Centre on 13th June, and have been trying to find out more about the venue.

I live down south, so haven't looked at it before and didn't realise what a wonderful selection of events you have.  I wish I were closer than 6 hours away!  I'd really like to come up to see him though and make a weekend of it.
Thanks very much
 Warm regards
 Sarah Bennett

Hi Sarah,
We don't usually do tickets for the folk club, although from initial interest, I feel we may have to for the Eric Bogle night.
However, I can assure you that whatever we  decide, I'll make sure that you have a good seat and will reserve one for you as you'll be travelling so far.
If you would like to ring me on  0191 4166999 we can have a chat so that I know your requirements in detail.  Do you need any help or advice organising hotel accommodation? If  so please don't hesitate to call.
Best wishes
Terri

 (28.9.09)

I wondered if you had any tickets left for Bob Fox & Billy Mitchell on 17th October.

We travelled down from Glasgow 2 years ago and had a fabulous night – this

Time we are 4, not 2 and would love to join you all again.

Hi Jaine,

As always - it's pay at the door but don't worry I'll make sure we keep seats for you.  It's a long way from Glasgow!
Just give me a ring on 0191 4166999 nearer the time to confirm.

All the best

Terri

Dear Terri and Eric

Thanks again for another wonderful evening at the Davy Lamp. Truly, it's one of our favourite clubs in the country. You all take good care
.

Lots of love

Hello
I used to come to the folk club back in 2007 - 2009 but moved to New Zealand, I was trying to think of the Irish man who sang a gorgeous song called Gloria I have tried to find the song but to no joy.
I bought the album but because of the move over here it got lost in transit, I really hope you can help me with the artist.

Many thanks
Jenna

P.S what a great job your doing keeping the folk scene alive and kicking in Durham

Hi Jenna
Nice to hear from you. I hope life is good in New Zealand.

The only Irishman I know who sings a song called Gloria is the wonderful Anthony John Clarke.  His website is at http://www.anthonyjohnclarke.com/.

I'm sure if you contact him he'll be happy to send you a copy of his CD. He has many others now - including a live album recorded at the Davy Lamp!

All the best

Terri

Dear Terri and Eric and Elliot

Thanks again for making us feel so welcome at the Davy Lamp last night.  We are still feeling warm and fuzzy over the lovely people we met, and music you and your friends treated US to!  What a fine group of people, AND musicians.  You are very lucky to live in this spot.

We wish we had more time to spend with you while passing through, but will have to look forward to next time.

Fondest regards from Deborah Robins-Hanks and Larry Hanks

Hi Terri

Last night with James Fagan & Nancy Kerr  was a great night. Entertainment as it should be. Faultless performance, from them and you lot.

Keep up the good work.

Ian Gardner

Hello Terri & Eric,
Ray and I visited the club on Saturday 1st October 2011, after getting very lost in the many (identical to the visitor) road islands of Washington new town.

Glad we persevered as the artists, Judy Dinning and Kenny Speirs were such a pleasure. What a delightful voice Judy has.  Just loved it.

Standard of floor singers/performers was impressive, so hope my offering came up to the mark. Thank you for giving me a spot.  It has been almost 30 years since I sang in the Davy Lamp club, but thank you Terri and Eric for recognising me as the person who sorted out your neck pain all those years ago. Of course I was only 10 years old then......

I do hope we get to visit more in the next 30 years.  Will bring our Zimmers with me.

Many thanks for a very enjoyable evening.
